Army Cadets is a youth program sponsored in part through the Government of Canada, Department of National Defence, to promote youth involvement within the community. Army Cadets is free to join and all uniforms and equipment are provided. There is no cost to the cadets for anything. Cadets are required to participate in occasional fundraising activities throughout the year.
On June 7th, 2017, Captain Simon Turner assumed command of the 1922 Royal Westminster Regiment Army Cadets. Captain Turner has 7 years of experience with the Army Cadet Program. Prior to Army Cadets, Captain Turner was a volunteer officer with the Navy League of Canada, where he obtained the rank of Lieutenant (NL) and assumed roles as Executive Officer and Commanding Officer.
Captain Turner also spent five years with the Canadian Armed Forces serving as an infantryman with the Princess Mary's Canadian Scottish Regiment, "B" Company, based out of Nanaimo, BC. Captain Turner also went through the cadet program as a cadet from the age of 10, until ageing out at 19.
